The Story of Saint Valentine [Valentine's day post] (Sorry for the late post)

A Roman saint from the third century, Saint Valentine is honored on February 14 in Western Christianity and on July 6 in Eastern Orthodoxy. He also serves as the patron saint of beekeepers, Terni, and epilepsy. Saint Valentine was a member of the Roman Empire's clergy, maybe as a priest or a bishop, who assisted the persecuted Christians. On February 14, which has been celebrated as Saint Valentine's Day since at least the seventh century, he was martyred and his remains were interred on the Via Flaminia.

According to a popular hagiography, Saint Valentine was a priest in Rome or the former bishop of Terni, a significant Umbrian town in central Italy. The Latinized version of his name, Valentinus, was arguing the veracity of Jesus with Judge Asterius while he was under house arrest. Valentinus was put to the test by the judge, who also presented him with his adopted blind daughter. Asterius would comply with Valentinus' requests if he was successful in restoring the girl's sight. When Valentinus touched the child's eyes , the child's vision was recovered.

The judge was immediately humbled and enquired of Valentinus what he ought to do. The judge should fast for three days before being baptised, Valentinus retorted, and all the idols surrounding his home should be destroyed. The judge complied and, after fasting and praying, released every Christian detainee under his control. The judge, his family, and his forty-four adult family members and household servants were all baptised after that.

Later, Valentinus was detained once more for spreading his religion. He was sent to Claudius Gothicus (Claudius II), the prefect of Rome. Up until Valentinus sought to persuade Claudius to convert to Christianity, Claudius liked him. Claudius sentenced him to death and demanded that he forsake his faith or else he would be flogged with clubs and killed. When Valentinus refused, he was enraged. On February 14, 269, Valentinus was put to death in front of the Flaminian Gate for his defiance.

According to an exaggeration of this story, Saint Valentine wrote a letter to Asterius' daughter before being executed that was addressed "from your Valentine" and is credited with "inspiring today's romantic missives." on the Fourteenth of Febuary
