Malenia: The Blade of Miquella and the Goddess of Rot

 Malenia is the daughter of Radagon and Marika. She is also the twin brother of Miquella. They have an inseparable bond and their two storylines are tightly related. Malenia vowed to be Miquella's unbeatable bodyguard in order to protect her brother because Miquella always remains in a child's body due to his curse of eternal youth.

Malenia was infected with the Scarlet Rot at a young age. Although she has the disease, her state is not typical of other patients. The Outer God of Scarlet Rot was imprisoned inside her physical body either soon after or possibly even before she was born. Whether Radagon committed this crime or if the Outer God itself was to blame is unknown. What is certain is that despite Malenia's strength, her body was unable to resist the Rot and gradually degenerated over time.

Extreme stress triggers the blooming of the Scarlet Flower of Malenia. It grants her incredible power but the rot in her body also increases dramatically. The Scarlet Aeonia Incantation is obtainable from her remembrance once she is defeated. It states: "Each time the scarlet flower blooms, Malenia's rot advances. It has bloomed twice already. With the third bloom, she will become a true goddess"

Not much is known about Malenia's early years, but what is known is tragic. She had Scarlet Rot from birth, making her a threat to both herself and others. She committed her life to the task of protecting her twin because she did not want this to define who she was. She had always been skilled with a blade, which is why a great and renowned swordsman in blue who moved like water took her on as an apprentice.

Malenia had honed her skills with a blade to the point where, even without a shield, she was an unstoppable force. She perfected her abilities before running off with her brother, who promised that he could treat her Scarlet Rot. Michelle would need to produce something that might counteract the impact of an Outer God in order to accomplish that, though. If their father Radagon learned about this heresy, he would undoubtedly be put an end to it. As a result, Miquella built his Haligtree, where the two spent a considerable amount of time in secrecy.

Malenia, however, eventually started to lose her limbs to the Scarlet Rot. Because of this, Miquella developed golden prostheses that could only slow the spread of the Scarlet Rot.

Invading Caelid's territory, Radahn had plans that would have put the Lands Between in danger all the way to Miquella's Haligtree. Malenia hurried off to confront Radahn in Caelid, being the only Demigod who could handle doing so. Miquella finished his Golden Needle and sent it off with Captain O'Neil to reach Malenia before her Scarlet Flower bloomed while  Miquella cocooned himself in his Haligtree in the interim, where if left unattended, he would hatch into a god.

The needle never reached Melania, and when her Scarlet Flower bloomed, it decimated the entirety of the Caelid region. Radahn was not destroyed, but the Scarlet Rot caused him to go insane, making it impossible for him to carry on his rampage. Malenia was injured during their struggle and went into a coma; it was only Finlay, a renowned Cleanrot Knight, who helped her wake up and make it back to the Haligtree. She was lying motionless as Finlay hauled her back and raised her up on the chair.

Since Malenia was in a coma, so she was unaware that Miquella had vanished. Taking advantage of her absence, Mohg, Lord of Blood broke into the Haligtree and abducted Miquella, who was completely defenseless inside his cocoon. In the end, Malenia lost her brother, her cure, and most likely her very identity to the influence of the Scarlet Rot . Her story is heartbreaking, so it's probably for the best that she was slain before she learned the truth of her brother's whereabouts.
