The Dance of the Dragons' – the War between Queens

The Dance of the Dragons is one of the most significant events in the history of Westeros. It was a civil war that took place in the Seven Kingdoms between 129 AC to 131 AC, and it was fought between two rival branches of House Targaryen for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms. The war was fought between the greens, who supported Aegon II Targaryen, and the blacks, who supported Rhaenyra Targaryen.

The war was named after the Targaryens, who utilized their dragons to war during the conflict. The greens had the dragon Sunfyre, ridden by Aegon II, while the blacks had the dragon Syrax, ridden by Rhaenyra. Dragons played a significant role in the conflict, with their riders using them to wreak havoc and destroy
entire armies.

The war began after the death of King Viserys I Targaryen. He had several children, with Rhaenyra and Aegon, being his firstborns from different marriages, Rhaenyra being named as his heir. However, upon Viserys' death, Aegon II claimed the Iron Throne for himself and was crowned king by the greens, who were led by his mother, Queen Alicent Hightower, and his grandfather Otto Hightower, the hand of King Viseris I.

The war was brutal and bloody,
with both sides suffering significant losses. The Blacks were inntially successful in capturing kings landing, but they were eventually run out of the city by the smallfolk during an event called the Storming of the DragonPit. After retreating to Dragonstone, she was betrayed by one of her leal men and was given to Aegon II, who fed her to his dragon Sunfyre before dying on wounds only days later – leaving Rhaenyra's only remaining son Aegon III as the reigning king of Westeros. The Dance of the Dragons left the Targaryen dynasty weakened and divided, and it paved the way for the eventual downfall of the House Targaryen.

In conclusion, the Dance of the Dragons was a significant event in the history of Westeros, and it had a profound impact on the Seven Kingdoms. The war showed the destructive power of dragons and the devastating consequences of dynastic struggles. The Dance of the Dragons is a cautionary tale about the dangers of power struggles and the importance of unity in times of crisis.
